It really is something to do exactly what you want for your engagement photos. It’s even better when you don’t have to choose between different types of environments or settings. These two chose a spot with a forest that also led to beach access all in one area! This allowed them to do a sunset session with two different locations, an outfit change and also include their pup! See the variety that this spring engagement session offered!
Even though I love multi-location, all-day adventure engagement sessions, there’s a beautiful simplicity to thoroughly enjoying a single location. Places that offer different environments in one area makes for easy logistics (transportation is simplified) and variety in your engagement shoot photos (outfit & accessory changes).
Casey and Logan wanted an engagement session in a natural environment with a bit of whimsy. According to Casey, they loved engagement photo ideas out in nature that “mixed woodsy scenery with some photos by the water.”
Beverly Triton Nature Park is located in Edgewater, Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay. The park features boating, fishing and a variety of natural trails leading to the shoreline, through the forest, and along the ponds. These two love the outdoors and took me to their favorite spots since they spend a good bit of time at the park.
It was not super busy at their sunset spring photo session and the environment provided so many beautiful backdrops to their engagement photo outfits. It is really unique to have a forest and a beach all in one place! Casey did one outfit change between the woods and the beach for a second look. I’m obsessed with all the textures of this setting and Casey’s hair blowing in the wind! We also had the prettiest sunset light.
Similarly, another couple chose Assateague Island which falls along the Maryland coast. It has a variety of locations to offer that includes beaches, a marsh with a deck overlook, and a forest with magical foliage. There’s much to explore on foot and it is just a short drive between all of these lovely spots!
One of my favorite features of Beverly Triton is that it’s a pet-friendly park! For their engagement session, Casey and Logan brought along their pup, Akela. He spent half of his time being loved on by Logan’s sister who watched him while we did portraits with just the two of them. There are so many dog-friendly outdoor locations in the DC Metro area! These include the National Arboretum, and many other garden wedding venues.
You’ll even find pet-friendly hotels where a furry friend can join you for the getting-ready portion of the day or the wedding itself (or both like this couple)! Some of my favorites are the LINE DC Hotel and Hotel Revival Baltimore. Other all-inclusive venues in Washington, DC also allow for pets.
The couple brought Akela to the park earlier in the week so he could become familiar with the smells. When capturing pets at your engagement session everyone definitely has to be prepared to be patient!
We will do a mix of still images with the pup sitting, walking, playing or being petted. It’s best to be super flexible and meet the pup where they are with what they naturally do.
The ability to relax into your engagement shoot can rely so much upon the environment and what helps you get comfortable in front of the camera. Shooting your session in an already familiar spot with your beloved pet is always a plus!
These two fit each other so well that even though it was Logan’s first photo session ever, they quickly became naturals. I love it when couples are open to my ideas, guidance and engagement photo tips. It always makes for a dream day!
