Washington, DC to Shenandoah All-Day Adventure Session

Couple twirls in field at Shenandoah National Park adventure session

What does an adventure session actually look like? If you are searching for a recommendation on how to do your adventure session, I say, the more the merrier! More time + more locations = more adventures to be had with your significant other! Let me take you on Alicia and Neil’s all-day adventure session that went from urban Washington, DC spots to the mountains of Shenandoah National Park! Look below to see what I mean!

Go With an Adventure Session Upgrade

I offer two engagement session options: the Base Engagement Session or an Adventure Session Upgrade. The Base Engagement Session includes about 90 minutes of shooting together at a location of your choice. With this we can either stick to one location or possibly go to second if they are relatively close.

With an Adventure Session Upgrade, I can document more of the things y’all love to do together and we can craft an amazing date day (like this one) to celebrate your engagement! We make it a relaxed, fun experience rather than just a box on your wedding to-do list.

The Adventure

Alicia & Neil are huge Washington Nationals fans (Washington DC’s baseball team) so we started their adventure session off at the Bullpen for a beer. This is a stop they always make before a game or it’s where they go to watch the game with friends instead. It only makes sense to capture you in your favorite spots or places that tell a part of your story as a couple. This works so well for both adventure sessions and for elopements too!

Afterwards we hopped around the outside of the stadium playing around in their favorite jerseys before heading to lunch. They grabbed their favorite eats at the Shake Shack, which is THEIR spot. Finally, we found ourselves exploring Navy Yard walking along the beautiful waterfront. From here, the adventure only continued!

Since these two also love hiking and being out in nature, we took their Washington, DC adventure session a little road trip to Shenandoah National Park. Our first stop was Big Meadows, which is a gorgeous open field with little meadows that have the prettiest light especially at sunset! We drove to a different part of the park and did a short hike off Skyline Drive for epic sunset mountain views!

Here is how we squeezed in all this adventuring in just one day:

Our Timeline

  • 1:30 PM Bullpen for a beer, Nationals Stadium & Lunch at Shake Shack (right next door).
  • 2:30 PM Leave for Shenandoah.
  • 4:30 PM Arrive at Shenandoah National Park (gate check-in can take some time on Saturdays).
  • 5:00 PM Arrive at Big Meadows.
  • 6:00 PM Head to mountain-view trail.
  • 6:30 PM Short hike up for the view.
  • 6:45 PM Sunset mountain photos.
  • 7:15 PM Head back down the mountain.

How the Process Works

This can be upgraded either within your wedding collection or be booked completely separately. We’ll chat about places and activities y’all love to see and do together. We will especially highlight the locations that hold the most meaning for you and your story as a couple. This could be a Washington, DC brewery or winery then an adventure at Shenandoah National Park or a day on Assateague Island. We can also keep the entire day urban by going throughout the city to all of your favorite places. The options are endless!

We’ll craft the perfect day and I’ll create a loose timeline–more like a time guide–to keep us on track. I say time guide, because it is super flexible and we can make changes as we go!

Are you ready for your adventure? Count me in!
