Reasons To Do Couples Maternity Photos in the Privacy of Your Home
Sometimes, I get to be a couple’s photographer more than once. Usually, this means I capture every stage of your wedding planning process from engagement to wedding day. While I love being your Washington, DC engagement and wedding photographer, there is something special about doing other types of sessions. Following along to photograph other major life events like these couples maternity photos is so fun!
Getting Creative With Your Couples Maternity Photos
I primarily spend my time shooting DC weddings and engagement sessions in and around the city. But, I’m down to be your maternity photographer too! What I love about couples maternity photography is that there is so much room for thinking outside of the box. There are so many options for how to capture your birth announcement photos.
Arianna and Matt approached me already knowing that their ideas matched the vibes of my photography style. They wanted to do creative maternity photos so they brought along maternity shoot props that we utilized throughout the session. This included the use of amazing personalized baby announcement newspapers that shared the breaking news.
I also loved using their sonograms within the session as another prop and a way to visually reveal their big news! The newspaper headlines stated: “Baby girl coming to a crib near you!” and “Baby Ennis is on the way!’ with the sonogram on the front page along with the due date. I also capture solo photos just with the mom-to-be which can be done in maternity boudoir style too!
Maternity Photoshoot Ideas: Treat Your Session Like a Date
Similar to an engagement photoshoot, you can treat the session like a date. Take the time to simply enjoy one another’s company and a favorite location or activity. It’s a season that is especially important to celebrate before you become a family of three! We can explore both indoor and outdoor maternity photos that can include my favorite thing to photograph: your pups!
Arianna and Matt started their couples maternity photos at their new home in Arlington, Virginia so that their two Frenchies could be included. Making pets a part of your session is something I love to offer and it can be done with the proper planning and preparation. The couple’s pups named Rex & Wrigs even wore “Big Bro” bandanas for the occasion!
Photographing these two in their own space allowed them first to relax and become comfortable. It also helped having their two furry family members present. My goal was to make them feel at ease throughout the session while matching their exact vision for these at-home maternity photos.
Taking Your Maternity Photoshoot Ideas To The City
Having recently moved to the area from Chicago, it was my job to be the couple’s guide to Georgetown during the second portion of their session. We caught these maternity photos in the fall when the city streets can remain warm through September and are usually covered in fallen leaves.
Arianna and Matt spent a lot of time in Georgetown and loved the idea of capturing themselves within a coffee shop vibe. With my local DC photographer knowledge and experience, we found the best photo spots.
These two were so fun and had such an amazing vision for their couples maternity photos. They were filled with excitement to announce their pregnancy and properly mark this milestone in their lives. I hope for the chance to capture future sessions as their family grows!
