Returning to a venue I’ve photographed before is both a gift and a challenge. The blessing is in the fact that I’m already familiar with the best spots to capture a couple’s day. The challenge is to do so differently than the last one! What’s great about the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House is the variety it provides in every season. These are highlights from another successful wedding day at this Baltimore wedding venue.
For a couple that loves both the outdoors and the city features, this Baltimore wedding venue’s industrial touches with outdoor options were the perfect fit. Lauren and Colin just loved the vibes of the warm yet industrial architecture with its exposed beams and brick.
As the couple noted, “The unique industrial look and feel is what drew us to the venue. We love the exterior and interior–especially the exposed brick!” The light from the large windows also allows for beautiful indoor or outdoor ceremonies. Since the venue was already their style, the wedding decor was kept neutral and simple so that the space shined on its own!
The bride summarized their wedding vision: “Neutrals for florals and linens with pops of black. We tried to match the industrial feel of the venue and didn’t want to overpower it!” Apart from the getting-ready portion of the day, the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House covered all of this couple’s needs for their wedding event timeline.
Of the area Baltimore wedding venues, this one is on the smaller side which means there aren’t extensive grounds for wedding portraits. The couple also opted to go without a first look so we had to get creative with their pre-wedding photography to avoid seeing each other.
We had the groom and groomsmen go to the venue early and walk over to a nearby underpass with beautiful cement arches in the background. They were then inside the venue when the bride arrived with her ladies to take photos on the terrace.
Looking for alternative locations is something to keep in mind when you are skipping a first look. It’s also crucial if you want to join your cocktail hour by having photos done earlier. This required a balancing act of sorting out who was at each location while staying out of the way as wedding vendors set up the space. But, it can be done!
Lauren and Colin added so many small but significant details creating an intimate and personalized feel to the day. They self-describe as big foodies who love to try new restaurants in addition to cooking at home! They were excited to work with Copper Kitchen’s incredibly delicious menu for both dinner and the cake. The couple received so many compliments on the wedding food!
Other features of the day tied in Lauren and Colin’s personality, shared interests, and their love story. On the couple’s many visits to local wineries and breweries they always take a deck of playing cards with them. Custom playing cards served as the couple’s unique wedding guest book with photos from their engagement session decorating the back.
Connecting to their love of spending time together outdoors, we caught their engagement photos at Great Falls Park in McLean, Virginia (they live a short drive away in Reston, Virginia). These two enjoy both hiking and golfing so the park became both the location of their first date and their engagement photoshoot. They were excited to incorporate these photos into their decor in several ways, also adding them to the backs of their table numbers.
Lauren and Colin are such a fun couple! I loved seeing them take it all in and really celebrate at their Baltimore wedding venue. Their stress-free day was such a credit to them and their team as every detail was so well-organized providing such a smooth experience.
One of the pivotal draws of the venue was its location. It is perfectly positioned as a halfway point between the Philadelphia and DC Metro Area. This allowed for the highest number of family and friends to come together for their celebration! High on their list of priorities after the ceremony and first dance was celebrating with family and friends.
Lauren and Colin shared from the outset that they loved how my wedding photography captures “the beauty of the subject and also the scenery.” To them, “photography is really important because it serves as a reminder of great times. So finding a great photographer for our wedding is a top priority of ours!”
Quality time is definitely the couple’s shared love language. This made it such a privilege to capture both the big and unexpected moments on their day. From the wedding reception speeches to the couple’s bubble exit, everything was so heartfelt, genuine and fun!
These two just want to remember all the good memories they make together. I genuinely enjoyed working with them and I’ve loved keeping up with their travel adventures since their big day!
