This is definitely the most badass wedding I have ever captured. Every detail of their wedding day encapsulated the couple’s personality, tastes, and overall rock & roll vibes that these two possess. No two weddings need to look the same, but most of them can end up being quite similar. In a sea of white and blush-tone inspired decor and dresses, a single wedding can get lost in the mix. That was not the case for Victoria and Derek. The couple’s style burst out of every moment of their day at this waterfront wedding venue in Pasadena, Maryland.
Victoria and Derek are both photographers based out of Baltimore, MD. They wanted their wedding to truly reflect their personality–which I for sure think they accomplished! I love that they hired independent artists through Instagram and Etsy as their vendors. A passion for giving back to the artist community and contributing to their unique style was perfectly clear!
The more a couple has a hand in designing their wedding day, the more their personality tends to stand out. Victoria and Derek DIY’d almost all of their decor which had pops of gold and greenery against their black backdrop. In getting to know these two I saw that both the darker tones and the shimmering gold stars encompassed their personalities in evvverryyy way.
These rock stars’ love for the color black had also been a longtime relationship that included even painting their house black! They knew this was going to be the anchor color to their wedding. Edgy but chic!
Each minor and major choice the couple made about their wedding day represented a part of them. From the bride’s long black veil to the bridesmaids’ black leather biker jackets–every piece was intentional! It was a no-brainer to put all of the wedding party in black as a beautiful contrast to the dried fall flowers of the bridesmaids’ bouquets.
Another element important to them was the moon and stars in the nighttime sky. This were found in the variety of gold star-studded decor and the custom-made star-detailed lace on Victoria’s dress. There were gemstone stars on Victoria’s black suede heels too!
Although Victoria and Derek are both skaters (we incorporated this into their engagement session) and creatives who prefer an urban setting, they also love the waterfront. That’s why they landed at Celebrations At the Bay, a Chesapeake Bay waterfront wedding venue in Pasadena, Maryland.
We split our portrait time between two totally different looks. The first was spent capturing the couple and wedding party soaking up the range of fall-colored leaves found in the nearby forest. The rest of the time was used taking advantage of the amazing waterfront view that this Chesapeake Bay, Maryland wedding venue has to offer! You just can’t beat the sun setting over the water at this venue!!
Here is what stands out about the waterfront Maryland wedding venue:
The special touches that the couple included to mark their day seemed to be never-ending. Per their love for skateboarding, they even used the bottom of a skateboard as their guest book. Other details included instructions at their open bar which said: “We’re the Millers so drink a Miller! Cheers!” The cherry on top was ending the night with a fun glow stick exit (scroll to the bottom to catch it!). Like seeing a single star shining in the nighttime sky, these lovebirds had all the hope and excitement perfect for such a sparkling beginning.
