Garden Lovers Find Their Garden Wedding Venue Match
Callie and Brandon were immediately drawn to the welcoming, beautiful, and calming atmosphere of The Market at Grelen. The garden venue sits on an 1,000 acre tree nursery in Somerset, Virginia set against the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The gardens offer all of the European vibes matching the couple’s own passions being lovers of plants, mountains, and the crisp outdoor air. The couple elaborated on their venue choice: “We connected with the outdoor space and how the property feels like a big hug. We also love the weeping willow tree in the Half Moon Garden!”
The desired takeaway of their wedding day was vivid memories of how it looked and felt. This included everything about the ceremony, exchanging personal vows, the first dance (and private last dance!), as well as walking down the aisle together during the recessional. That’s why they chose a venue that so perfectly matched the two of them!

The Market at Grelen Inspires a Garden Wedding Theme
Being mutual lovers of the outdoors, Callie and Brandon added their own personal garden touches to the day. DIY wedding decorations included dried lavender and pressed flowers from their own garden as a part of the reception table decor.
Vintage postcards were also placed on the reception tables noting the table name and number. The couple even created a program that included a crossword puzzle and other fun inclusions for their guests. An additional non-decor DIY element they included was a choreographed first dance!
The wedding theme colors were also inspired by the couple’s personal taste showcasing one of Callie’s favorites, lilac. White and lilac were the primary wedding flower colors utilized for the ceremony while lilac and sage green were the earth tone accents for the wedding reception dinner.
The couple shared about their chosen wedding color palette to complement The Market at Grelen style: “We love the calming and rich earth tones of the venue and wanted to evoke a timeless, romantic, and elevated feel to our garden party wedding. Our formal guest dress code also played into our classic, timeless, elegant theme. We wanted to combine our eclectic side with our more bougie side in a wedding design that would always feel in style.”

When Two Sweethearts Bring a Venue to Life
While The Market at Grelen can host up to 200 wedding guests (or more for a fee), Callie and Brandon kept it small and intimate with a four-person wedding party and only 51 guests. The venue offers specific elopement and micro wedding packages for couples who desire an even more intimate affair!
My favorite moments from Callie and Brandon’s fall wedding day stemmed from the priority these two placed on soaking it all up. The couple wanted to set aside time to be together and take advantage of the sunset so we captured couples portraits throughout the day which was really fun!
The property is just so gorgeous with so many unique options for ceremony, reception, and wedding portraits that it was easy to capture their love. We even got to take a ride in an ATV as the venue drove us over to a separate location for sunset photos!
After enjoying the evening’s celebrations, the newlyweds had a private last dance followed by a late night bite with guests in the Potting Shed to close out the day. Callie and Brandon wanted to remember these moments surrounded by the support of loved ones there to celebrate them. They accomplished this so seamlessly while also being so fun to hang out with!
