The rain doesn’t have to go away for the two of you to come out and play. While I will stop a photography session when conditions are unsafe, most of the time we lean into the weather and make the most of it! There were no two people better fit for a rain-filled day like this one than Maddie and Trevor. See how their love brought them out into an urban setting for these rainy engagement photos.

While it’s true that April showers bring May flowers, that rain always falls a little differently when it’s hitting you on the city streets. As a Washington, DC engagement photographer, I’ve earned my stripes shooting in all seasons and weather conditions. I’m your year-round DC guide when it comes to capturing photos in the city both indoors and outside!

I carried that knowledge with me up the coast for these rainy engagement photos in New York City. While they planned for a DC Metro Area wedding, Maddie and Trevor are NYC natives who wanted their engagement session to take place back home. The two have such a crazy busy schedule so it worked out best for me to go to them!

Spring in any state that has four seasons can be questionable, but even more so when you’re walking around a city. We took a risk and just made sure we were super prepared!

Maddie and Trevor just wanted to have a good time while capturing real and timeless moments. These two are all about the details and wanted their photos taken in the most natural way possible. Once the couple booked one of my wedding photography packages that includes an engagement session, we planned for their city engagement adventure.

Beyond that we got to explore the cobblestone streets of SoHo where these two currently live. This historic neighborhood left me feeling right at home as it is reminiscent of all the historic vibes of Georgetown. While they got married at Airlie in Virginia, they wanted to capture their current life in NYC.

Before their outdoor photography turned rainy, we first explored the spot in Central Park where the two got engaged. Maddie and Trevor were able to be playful by the Bethesda Fountain before any rain started to fall!

When it came to the rainy part of this day, we just embraced it! Being prepared for the rain is always at the top of my list so we made an indoor museum plan as a backup just in case it turned into a downpour.

I had the two pop out the cute clear umbrellas I brought along whenever it started to sprinkle! These umbrellas are absolutely magical and made the rainy engagement photos feel very cinematic.

Maddie and Trevor are SO fun! I really loved hanging out with them and hearing all of their NYC stories!
