The mantra for this wedding day was “think pink.” This applied not only to the decor and the dress, but to every part of the day that embraced this pink wedding theme! The bride doesn’t just claim to like the color, she sees it as part of her identity. See how these two filled their day with surprises at their pink wedding!
This bride loves every shade of pink. Starting with the engagement session, pink was infused into the look and design of each component of the wedding planning process. Also being into the glam aesthetic (think disco balls, mirrored furniture, chandeliers, marble and gold, etc.), the wedding vibe could best be described as fun, pink and glam.
Erica and Brandon tried not going over the top while fully embracing their glam and pink wedding design. This included maintaining a pink and sparkling look throughout from bold surprises to the most minor details. These are some of their pink wedding details and glam highlights:
Erica first saw La Vie restaurant of Washington, DC on a television show. This was before she and Brandon had even started looking for a DC wedding venue! It reminded her of a previous location where she had celebrated her birthday and she loved its pink decor and intricate ceilings.
After walking into La Vie for the first time, Brandon said, “It’s going to be very hard to get Erica to get married anywhere else.” Since then, they have spent many date nights there enjoying the Mediterranean food and amazing top-floor views. Mediterranean food is the bride’s top choice and they consider La Vie’s as some of the best!
The venue’s modern aesthetic skillfully blends a classy yet fun look with five differently styled rooms that can be extremely customized. The gorgeous waterside view over The Wharf provides options for wedding portraits by the water, on the rooftop, and indoors. Below are some of the couple’s favorite features of La Vie restaurant DC:
Planning your day well at La Vie primarily requires good communication with the venue since they offer so many options. For example, if you wish to use the rooftop Terrace Garden it needs to be additionally reserved since it is considered a separate space. You can use it just for portraits without a reservation if it isn’t currently occupied by another event. But, this can mean taking photos while working around the setup for the next event or even within the setup of your own space.
Be sure to confirm what rooms are included in your rental, where rentals will be stored, and when the restaurant closes prior to the wedding. It was a little chaotic during this couple’s pre-ceremony photos because the restaurant was open for brunch/lunch before the wedding.
I recommend either the full restaurant buyout option or at least moving up your rental start time. That allows time so the space is available for indoor photos (first look, wedding party, family wedding portraits). The full buyout includes up to 720 guests standing and 300 seated (including bar seating). But, I would argue that La Vie is perfect for an intimate wedding (theirs had 70 guests) since guests are otherwise spread out across the various rooms.
Booking an event at La Vie is almost all-inclusive. It includes event coordination, in-house catering and bar (required), lighting/sound, set up/tear-down, and rentals. I would still recommend having your own DC wedding planner in addition to their day-of wedding coordinator. The venue doesn’t allow flowers but there are many ways to creatively utilize this already well-decorated space like this pink wedding day.
From the beginning, Erica and Brandon expressed that they felt a very strong desire to go nontraditional: “We very much wanted something that felt unique to us. While we had to work within the limits of what a wedding is, the unique design and decor of La Vie really inspired us.”
They found a way to integrate traditional Jewish wedding components into the wedding’s chandelier inspiration and pink wedding color. The wedding ceremony chuppah was acrylic with dangling crystals hanging inside of the four pillars that were lit pink. The glass kiddush cups sitting inside of the chuppah also matched with crushed glass in the stems.
Reception tables were left uncovered since they already blended so well with the pink wedding decor. The centerpieces combined the chandelier decor with a desire to infuse a fun, playful vibe that matched the venue’s funk. The following are additional Jewish traditions that they incorporated into their pink wedding ideas:
The entire day was an investment in these wedding theme colors accompanied by so many surprising “wow” moments! From the pink wedding colors to epic entrance music, Erica’s white wedding pantsuit change, and a choreographed first dance–there was such dedication to their wedding theme ideas. The unique wedding details of the day were so them!
