Wedding Photography DC | Elopements and Intimate Weddings
The script for what a perfect wedding “should be” is changing, and this photographer is all about that. Everyone should have the type of wedding that makes them happy. Here’s to doing your own thing!
In the case of Katie and Marty, they decided their wedding was going to be a funky boho merging of an intimate elopement and the best party they ever threw with pumpkins and pizza. I mean, who in their right mind would say no to photographing something like that?
It’s even more magical because Katie was one of the first people that I met when I moved to DC, so I have a special place in my heart for her. I was over the moon excited when she and Marty asked me to photograph their wedding!
The details that people choose for their wedding aesthetic are always interesting to me because there’s always a story. Nobody chooses things randomly, there’s so much thought put into the day to make it unique and their own.
Katie and Marty started with their location; they wanted something simple, easy, and that was meaningful to the two of them, so they chose a gazebo located on the place where they met; St Mary’s College in Maryland on a Friday afternoon surrounded by their closest family and friends.
The grounds of St Mary’s! OH MY GOSH. What a perfect location for a wedding and endless places for the kind of intimate and relaxed portraits that they wanted. They lined the stairs of the pavilion with pumpkins and gold lanterns on one of those perfect fall days that convince you that maybe winter won’t ever come.
Katie’s dress was, well…so perfectly Katie that I nearly (did) cry every time I looked at her. She chose a succulent crown that was stunning and complimented Marty’s ROCKING GREEN SUIT.
And don’t feel like as a bride, you must wear heels. Katie chose Floral Keds for her footwear and they are evverrytthhinngg!
The next day Katie and Marty kept the party going by inviting more friends and extended family to take part in their celebration at The Tool Box in DC for…PIZZA! If you’re going to marry the person of your dreams, why not have the food of your dreams at your party/reception?
Katie and Marty, being at your wedding and photographing it was an absolute joy. Thank you for doing your wedding your way. The Katie and Marty way. It was utterly perfect.
